Show Notes

This week on the Just Say Something Podcast, they are celebrating its 40th anniversary by highlighting the importance of strengthening family bonds and parenting skills. Just Say Something offers programs for families with children from birth through college graduation, available in both English and Spanish.

A powerful example of JSS' impact is shared through a story of a single father whose daughter transformed from failing grades to becoming an honor roll student after participating in their classes. JSS emphasizes that small parental interventions can instill resilience and pride in children.

As part of their Giving Tuesday campaign, Just Say Something is requesting donations of $40 (or multiples thereof) to support their community work. Interested individuals can learn more about their programming by visiting justsaysomethingsc.org, where they can explore the organization's various family support initiatives.

Donations to the campaign can be made here: https://givebutter.com/fTLW7b

[00:00:07] Hello there. Philip Clark back would just say something. [00:00:11] We work really, really hard to get families to bond, to be a stronger unit, because the stronger that the family is, the more successful, not just the family, but the children can be. [00:00:28] So as I look back, just say something is celebrating our 40th year. [00:00:36] And so this year, if we think about that, you know, 40 years ago, the big thing was MTV, and now the big thing is TikTok. So look at the technology that has changed over the years. But then, guess what? Parenting is still the same. [00:00:59] What we get, what we teach parents to do, the skills, the tools they need to still have those conversations with their kids, starts as soon as your child comes home from the hospital. [00:01:16] And so that's one of the things that we try to teach along the way. Knowing that we have programs for any family that has a child from birth all the way through high school or college graduation in English or in Spanish. So as I look back, I haven't been here for 40 years, but as I look back, close 38, 32 years, I look at the number of families that we've been able to touch over the years. [00:01:55] Gosh, I don't even want to guesstimate at what that number would be. But I know that every family that sits in one of our classes is touched. [00:02:04] They learn something new and they have a new appreciation, not just for themselves, but for their child. [00:02:12] You know, I've probably used this story before, but we had a single dad with his daughters enroll in one of our classes, and his daughter in elementary school was failing. [00:02:25] By the time they finished the class, the child was making straight A's and was on the honor roll for her school. [00:02:33] It's the small things that you as a parent can do to instill that resiliency and that pride in your child, unlike anybody else can. [00:02:48] So for the thousands and thousands of families that we've touched over the years, we're asking this Giving Tuesday that you give $1 for every year that we've been here. So $40 you can give in multiples of 40s, but $40, and just think about the effect that's going to have collectively on families in our community. [00:03:18] If you want to find out a little bit more about what we do in the community, be sure to go to just say something sc.org and you can find us there with a list of our programming. [00:03:30] And I look forward to your support. I look forward to your continued support, and I look forward to our paths crossing in the new year. Thank you.
