Just Say Something Podcast, Episode #7

In this episode, Phillip Clark discusses upcoming activities and ways to support the work of the team at Just Say Something. Phillip is the CEO/Executive Director of the Just Say Something organization.

Phillip begins by highlighting the Men of Color Conference, where high school students can attend and learn from entrepreneurs and community leaders. In addition, Phil mentions the organization is sponsoring ten high school students to attend the conference. Phillip also discusses the 36th annual Red Ribbon Golf Classic, a
fundraising event with sponsorship opportunities. Speaking on the sponsorships, Phillip says, “We have a sponsorship level for you. If not, we are more than willing to create one specifically for you as an individual or for your business. As part of that, I do want to mention to our listeners out there that
the $250 level is what we list as our honor roll.”

Additionally, he talks about the Cakes and Comedy event, where cakes are auctioned off and a comedian performs. Phil explains, "We work with local bakeries and bakers who donate cakes. We put them up for auction. And we also have a comedian come in for entertainment."

Lastly, Phil announces the return of the Youth Summit, a two to three-day event for high school students. He encourages participation by saying, "If you have a high schooler in your household, or if you're an educator and you know of a high school student who may benefit from attending this program,
please be sure to share our information with them.”

[00:00:07] Hey there. Welcome back to just say somethings podcast. [00:00:12] Don't forget, follow us on our social media and like us on our YouTube channel. For all of our previous podcasts, we are released seeing or putting out a new podcast every Tuesday during the year of 2024. So if you miss one, you can always go back and listen again later. [00:00:37] So today, instead of covering one of our programs, I wanted to go over our calendar of activities that are coming up and to let you know maybe how you can get involved, how you can support the work that our team does here at just say something. And so I wanted to let you know, too, that you're most likely familiar with the men of Color conference that takes place in Greenville every April that is sponsored by Clemson University. And so this is an opportunity for the young men in our schools to be able to go to a conference, to hear from entrepreneurs and those in the community and outside of our community, to hopefully teach and work with our youth to provide them new skills and new information. [00:01:34] SO I WANTED TO lET YOU KNOW THAT JUST SAY sOMETHING IS sCHOLARSHIPING TEN OF OUR hIGH sCHOOL sTUDENTS hERE iN GREENVILLE COUNTY TO BE aBLE TO GO TO THAT, TO ATTEND THAT. And Mr. Stacey and Autumn on our team will be chaperoning those students. So just know there's an opportunity that if you would like to support our young people here in Greenville county, this is one of the ways to do that. [00:02:04] Next, as an opportunity for you to support all of the work that we're doing here, we are in the midst of putting together our 36th annual Red Ribbon golf Classic this year that will be held on Monday, April the 29th, at Thornblade. And we have opportunity for approximately 30 some OD teams. And so we have sponsorship levels from $250 all the way up to $15,000. [00:02:41] Don't everybody knock down the door for the $15,000 part. But just know that we have a sponsorship level for you. If not, we are more than willing to create one specifically for you as an individual or for your business. As part of that, I do want to mention to our listeners out there that the $250 level is what we list as our honor roll. So if you have one in your life who maybe you've lost to addiction or for whatever reason, maybe drunk driving, unfortunately, so many levels or opportunities out there. [00:03:28] But just know you can honor a family member by putting them on our honor roll for $250. [00:03:37] Once we have our golf tournament in April, quickly behind that is our cakes and comedy event. [00:03:45] We work with local bakeries and bakers who donate cakes. We put them up for auction. And we also have a comedian come in. And so last year was our first annual event for our cakes and comedy for the community. And so we are also in the midst of our planning for that to take place early May of 2024. [00:04:13] This summer, we are bringing back our youth summit. [00:04:19] We had to pause that during COVID but we feel like this is a prime opportunity to be able to start that again. So in the end of June, we will bring back our youth summit, which will be a two to three day event. [00:04:39] It is specifically for high school students. [00:04:42] And so if you have a high schooler in your household, or if you're an educator and you know of a high school student who may benefit from attending this program, please be sure to share our information with them as these events come up. We will have them on our website just saysomethingsc.org. We will also be posting more on our social media channels or outlets, but we'll also have information available through our podcast and again, our website. [00:05:24] So just wanted to let you know that these opportunities are out there.
