Show Notes

In today’s episode, Philip Clark welcomes Bailey Tollison to discuss Just Say Something's annual Red Ribbon Golf Classic. Bailey is a dedicated board member and has been involved with the organization’s annual Red Ribbon Golf Classic for five years. He has also helped raise funds to support the organization’s youth sports program called Impact, which engages young people in flag football, soccer and basketball while teaching them essential life skills.

Phillip and Bailey delve into the details of the tournament, including the date, location, and sponsorship options. Bailey shares his experiences being involved with the event and highlights the positive feedback received from participants. He tells Phillip, "When you come out and it's 75 degrees, beautiful green grass, and you're out there on a Monday afternoon, I don't think that you'd regret it."

Additionally, they emphasize the importance of the tournament as a fundraiser for the organization's youth sports program, Impact, which provides opportunities for children to engage in sports while learning valuable life skills. Bailey explains, "Youth Impact Sports is really doing great things in our community with our youth."  Finally, listeners are encouraged to participate in the tournament and support the organization's mission.

This year's tournament will be held on April 29, 2024 at Thornblade Club. To register to play or to sponsor: https://givebutter.com/4JnGnF

[00:00:08] Speaker A: Well, hello there again, Philip Clark with just say something. And welcome back to our weekly podcast. So I have something exciting that we're wanting to talk about today. You know, if you're in the nonprofit world, you can't live without fundraisers and have to have dedicated, awesome board members to help with those fundraisers. So today I would like to welcome Bailey Tolison. Bailey, welcome to our podcast to talk about. Drumroll. Our annual red Ribbon golf Classic. [00:00:43] Speaker B: Best day of the year. [00:00:44] Speaker A: Hey, so speaking of, when is it? [00:00:47] Speaker B: April 29. [00:00:48] Speaker A: And where is it? [00:00:49] Speaker B: Thornblade. [00:00:50] Speaker A: Okay. Hey, spring Thornblade. [00:00:55] Speaker B: The BMW is about a month later, so the course will be in perfect shape. Yeah, I think August has figured something out. April is a good month to play golf. [00:01:04] Speaker A: It's not a bad month for birthdays, either. Not that I'm. [00:01:07] Speaker B: My daughter is in April. [00:01:09] Speaker A: See? Told you. See, I was thinking of your daughter. So how long have you been involved? Not just in. Just say something, but with our golf tournament. [00:01:21] Speaker B: This is year five. [00:01:22] Speaker A: Okay. [00:01:24] Speaker B: Started in 2020. We had, obviously, a difficult. Our tournament was supposed to be, I think, less than a month later. So that would make this probably the fifth one that we've done. [00:01:34] Speaker A: Yeah. Since you've been on board. What is this one, though? This is our what? Annual. [00:01:42] Speaker B: I think it's the 36th. [00:01:44] Speaker A: 36Th annual Red Ribbon Golf Classic. [00:01:47] Speaker B: So you've been a part of how many of those? Because I've been five. I think you're probably 36. [00:01:52] Speaker A: Almost all of them. Oh, man. We started out the links of Trine. Really? Yeah, I know that. [00:02:02] Speaker B: It was at. [00:02:05] Speaker A: Ryan Steakhouse. Used to be our title sponsor back in the day. Wow. I'm dating myself because it was a. [00:02:12] Speaker B: Green valley for a long time. [00:02:14] Speaker A: It was in Green Valley. Yeah. But we went to links of Tron. We've been to the cliffs. We've been to Cliffs Valley, and then we found a home at Green Valley, and then we changed over to Thornblade and feel like we have our new home. Yeah. [00:02:34] Speaker B: This will be the fourth straight at Thornblade, not counting the canceled year, I think. [00:02:39] Speaker A: Right, right. Yeah. Yeah. And it just gets easier and easier every year to put this on. I know we hear a lot from golfers during the day of. This is the best tournament I've ever played in every year. And so we love to hear that. So how much does it cost to put a team in? [00:03:00] Speaker B: $1,500 for four players. So that's kind of our, I guess, lowest team sponsorship to submit a team. So that would be four players. It includes a full day of golf and includes food. It also includes a little golfer prize, which I think is why it's a lot of people's favorite tournament of the year. And so that's kind of for the team. We also have other memberships. You could be a beverage court sponsor, a whole sponsor. You can do an honor roll sponsor, which is just kind of your name. And so there are multiple different sponsorships options, starting from just a couple of way up to the presenting sponsor. So really a multitude of different ways that you can help support. Obviously, if you're a golfer, we'd love to have a team or maybe even multiple teams, and you can get that with some of the higher level sponsorships. Or if you're not a golfer, we'd love to have beverage cart, whole signs, anything that we would love to support you as an individual or you as a company. And so that's really an option that hopefully covers everybody. [00:04:04] Speaker A: Yeah, we do have a lot of options. I think last I looked, we start at $250 for the honor roll, and we go all the way up to, we have one at 15 and then ten, and then we come down from there. [00:04:19] Speaker B: And those higher level sponsorships include multiple teams as well. [00:04:26] Speaker A: I'm not a golfer. I can help put on a heck of a tournament, but I'm not a golfer. How fortunate are we that we're able to be at Thornblade for this? [00:04:37] Speaker B: Yeah, well, Thornblade, to my knowledge, they don't accept any new tournaments. To my knowledge, we are kind of grandfathered in and been lucky with some relationships there, so definitely feel fortunate, especially with the timing. Again, with the BMW coming up, they really do make sure that the course is in great shape that time of year, and it always is. So we love having it there. They do a great job hosting us, and, yeah, we've kind of found our home, so it's always a great day. [00:05:05] Speaker A: Hey, there's a home away from home. [00:05:07] Speaker B: Yeah, I would love that as my second. [00:05:11] Speaker A: Not a bad place to live. [00:05:13] Speaker B: No. [00:05:13] Speaker A: I don't know that. I could have. Got everything you need. [00:05:15] Speaker B: Got everything you need. Golf, food, and I'm sure they could find a place to sleep. [00:05:20] Speaker A: Tennis, pool, tennis. I mean, hey, we might be onto something. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:28] Speaker A: Bailey. So if a company wants to find out more information about our annual golf tournament, where do they need to go? [00:05:38] Speaker B: Our website is, I guess, a great platform. Also, we have a flyer that I'd be happy to share so they could reach out to me. I guess I'll get my email. Bailey. B-A-I-L-E-Y. Tolison Tollison at colliers. Colliers.com. Or you can check it out on our website. [00:05:59] Speaker A: Okay. All right, cool. And also, you can check our social media. One thing, too, is for those of you that are out there listening as you think about a potential sponsorship for this particular event, just know that the funds, 100% of the funds that we raise through this particular event go to support our youth sports program called Impact. This is where we engage our young people, ages six to twelve, in flag football, soccer and basketball. And while we have them engaged in those particular sports, we're also able to teach them some of those critical life skills that they're not getting anywhere else. So this particular event is our largest fundraiser of the year. And so it's very important for us to be able to carry on and work in the community like we do. So, Bailey, what is one thing you can tell a businessman or a business lady out there that should I, shouldn't I? What's that one thing you can say to tilt them over the fence, to say, yes, they should. [00:07:13] Speaker B: I don't think you'll regret it. When you come out and it's 75 degrees, beautiful green grass, and you're out there on a Monday afternoon, I don't think that you'd regret it. I've never heard anyone regret it. So there's my pitch. Try us out once. We'll give you a money back. Guaranteed refund. I'm joking. It's a great organization, great cause, and a lot of fun. So, like Phil said, youth impact Sports is really doing really great things in our community with our youth. And so we would encourage you to hopefully play. Obviously, we sell you with the golf, but we really want to teach you more about the organization, about what we're doing, and about just different ways that we can, again, support kind of our next generation here, really. Just in Greenville. [00:07:59] Speaker A: Right. And so that is the 35th red ribbon golf class. 36, 36, 36. They lost count on me earlier on Monday, April the 29th, at Thornblade. Tee off time at 10:00 roughly. [00:08:16] Speaker B: Ten. [00:08:17] Speaker A: Yeah, give or take a minute. [00:08:18] Speaker B: They give us the final number. I think it's ten or 1030. Yeah. [00:08:21] Speaker A: It depends on the weather. We'll provide you free snacks. We provide you with free lunch. We have awards for first, second, and third awards for closest to the pen and longest drive. [00:08:37] Speaker B: And more snacks. [00:08:38] Speaker A: And more snacks. And then at the end of the day, we'll give you maybe another lunch and more snacks, and a great time will be had by all. So join us. So again, go to our website. Just saysomethingsc.org, and under our events tab, click on the red ribbon classic and you can find more information there. Well, Bailey, I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy day to stop by and to share this with our listeners. And for me to say I appreciate you and everything that you do to help further our mission in the community. [00:09:15] Speaker B: Yeah, well, thanks for having me on. Hope to see you all, I guess, on the 29th. [00:09:19] Speaker A: All right, sounds good. Thanks.
