Show Notes

In this episode of the Just Say Something Podcast, Phil Clark talks with Andrea Camacho, the newest full-time member of the Just Say Something team and a familiar face at community events across the Greenville area. Andrea shares her passion for community outreach, her background growing up in Costa Rica, and how meaningful conversations, whether in English or Spanish, can open doors for families seeking resources and support.

Andrea highlights recent events she’s attended, the power of partnerships, and why even a brief conversation at a resource table can spark real change. She also explains her role in delivering Triple P parenting programs, offering guidance and connection to new parents, expecting parents, and caregivers navigating difficult behaviors.

Phil and Andrea invite listeners to volunteer, get involved, and stay connected, because every conversation matters, and community engagement strengthens us all.

[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:07] Speaker B: Hello there and welcome back to another episode of Just say Something podcast. My name is Philip Clark and I'm the CEO here at Just say Something and I want to welcome you back to our next episode. Before I get started, please be sure to like share and subscribe because we don't want you to miss any episodes. So today we, we have a. She's not new with us. She's, she's been with us doing some of our parenting programs for a little while and actually we have your husband. [00:00:45] Speaker A: Yes. [00:00:45] Speaker B: And we have your sister in law. So it's a family affair. [00:00:48] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a family. [00:00:49] Speaker B: Yeah. So Andrea Camacho. [00:00:54] Speaker A: Yes. [00:00:55] Speaker B: Is the newest member of our full time staff here at Just say Something and she is our serving as our community outreach. So if you see Just say Something or the Power Collective at a table at a local event, then chances are Andrea is either there or has been in charge of it of setting it up. So welcome. [00:01:24] Speaker A: Thank you so much. I'm happy to be here. [00:01:27] Speaker B: And so give us a little bit of your background. [00:01:30] Speaker A: Well, well, my name is Andrea. I'm from Costa Rica but I'm living here in Greenville for four years. [00:01:37] Speaker B: Okay. [00:01:37] Speaker A: Kind of. I love to working with the community. Since I was, I don't know, 10 years old, I was working with the community and then that's the passion for me. And then I love to engage with the people, talking with the people and help and give you the resources that I think there's a reason I'm here now. Try to help with these kind of things and connecting and try to involve with your organization too. [00:02:03] Speaker B: Right, right. Okay, great. So tell. So we've, we've been really busy since you've been on board. [00:02:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:14] Speaker B: And so tell our listeners a little bit about some of the events that we've been participating in just in your short time of being here. [00:02:23] Speaker A: Well, in my short time I being Lake Robinson Day, I being in Night Out, National Night out in Traveler Dress, Spine Alliance Fair and they have a lot of events in everything. So we have to on track High school. Just a lot of events and a few times. Yeah. But I try to connect with every event and where every person who comes to our table and ask you for just say something. Even connect with all other organizations too. That's what I, we do when we are. [00:02:58] Speaker B: Right, right. Yeah. I always say that the issues that our families face are bigger than any one organization can provide for them. So partnerships are very, very, very important. So you talked earlier about your, you love being involved and getting involved in the community. Has there been something that has surprised you in your short time that you've been here, when you've been out with our tables at different community events? [00:03:28] Speaker A: Well, each event has a different kind of ambient. I don't know. How do you say that? Each event. [00:03:37] Speaker B: Atmosphere. [00:03:38] Speaker A: Atmosphere. Yeah. Each event is different. So I love to be there because I can connect and meet a lot of people. They are passionate and volunteer too. And this the most important thing. They are giving her time, this time, their time for every time. So I love that. And that's something that surprised me is when the people come to us, a little conversation can make a huge change. Yeah, yeah. When we can give you some resources or just hear the people, they say, how. Thank you. I didn't know that. Oh, that's amazing. I can get with that, with this, with this resource. Now I really need that. I need. I can refer somebody else too, because they have some troubles or some behavior that need to. They need help. And then that every conversation, every moment that you have in this event can make a huge change. [00:04:32] Speaker B: Absolutely, absolutely. And that goes back to our name. Just say something. Having. Having those important conversations. [00:04:39] Speaker A: I think that's the reason I'm here. Have conversation with the people in Spanish or in English. [00:04:44] Speaker B: Right, right. [00:04:44] Speaker A: Yeah. I try to improve my English. But have this conversation with the people about anything that just hear the people. They need a lot that I love this kind of things in my job. [00:04:56] Speaker B: Yeah. And so one thing that you also do for us that you've been doing on a contract basis, you're part of our triple. [00:05:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:05] Speaker B: And so tell our listeners just a little bit about Triple P, what that is, and some of the opportunities or some of the things that maybe you've worked with parents on. [00:05:16] Speaker A: Well, of course. Well, Triple P is an amazing program that we have here. We have different programs with Triple P. We have Triple B seminars. We have triple P111, and we have Triple P baby, too. So those programs are really, really awesome. I say because we. We can connect with the people with some behaviors that we have with the child, and we can. We can help you and we can make like a connection with other parents too. So one by one, Triple B, one by one, we can do like a coach kind of series, like a coach. We can speak about it and try to find some better ways to manage some behaviors in our kids. So we can help you manage and coach the person. So we have triple babies who is. For parents who are expecting a little baby or half a baby under 12 months. So we can show you, help you and give you support because it's a huge change when you have a baby home. [00:06:21] Speaker B: So. Right. You should know, right? [00:06:24] Speaker A: I have one. Yeah, I have one. That's the thing here. We every here has some experience. And then with experience experience, we can help too. Yeah, of course we need. We get the certification for triple P, but we have experience too and try to help the people to connect. And you are not long as a parent. [00:06:44] Speaker B: Right. [00:06:44] Speaker A: That's the most important thing. But when you're a parent, you feel really, really alone. It's like, oh my God, what I need to do now. So we triple P3 try to connect and help you to get more resources. Because sometimes we know we would do apply away. We didn't know how to do that. And that's the idea with triple P. Have some resources and connect and help you with some behaviors and conditions and some new things that you are experimenting now. [00:07:12] Speaker B: Okay, all right, great. So back on the event side, I know that we're always needing volunteers, especially as busy as we are around here. And so what would you say to someone if they're like, okay, I can volunteer. What do you expect from me? What do you need from me? [00:07:39] Speaker A: Well, the first thing I want to, I would say is just try it. Try it. Be volunteer is the the best experience that I have that I told you I was volunteer. I've been volunteer like the whole my life. Yeah. That you can get. Get connection with a lot of people. Have fun too. When you're volunteer, you have a lot of fun. You meet a lot of people, improve new skills too. And then if you don't want to be involunteer, just try it. We can give you here the support to be volunteer. You don't need experience to be volunteer. Also, that's the thing. It's more important if you just say, I never been volunteer after that. It's okay. It's okay. Just come with me and then we're gonna try. Just try it. Give it opportunity to be volunteer and have fun with me. [00:08:30] Speaker B: Okay. All right, wonderful. So if they want to have fun with you, what's the best way for them to get in touch with you? [00:08:36] Speaker A: Well, you can call to just say something here or you can send me an email to andrea justiceanti.com I can give you a call or just coming to just say something or looking or page or website. Just say something and you can get connection with us and then we can give you a call, Just have a conversation. [00:08:57] Speaker B: Okay. All right, Wonderful, wonderful. So all you have to do if you want to get involved is to call the office and ask for Andrea. And Our number is 864-467-4099. And then if you want to give her, send her an email. You can send that to Andrea. A N D R E A at just say something sc.org well, is there before I close this out or we close this out, is there one thing that you would like to tell our listeners that maybe I didn't ask you about? [00:09:35] Speaker A: Well, just say something. Have a lot of resources and you can involve here as a volunteer office. You need help too. We are here to hear. To hear you. We have. We are here to have conversations. So just scholars. So just looking for us. And then we have. We need to have a conversation every time. If you come to our table, in any event, we are happy to. To have a conversation with you. [00:10:00] Speaker B: Okay. All right. That sounds great. And so that will do it for another episode of our just say something weekly podcast. Andrea, thank you for being here with us. And so for our listeners, be sure to, like, share and subscribe and be sure to reach out if there's anything we can do to help you and your family in your current circumstances.
