Show Notes

In this episode of the Just Say Something Podcast, Phil Clark shares everything you need to know about the 2026 Just Say Something Red Ribbon 5K, happening Sunday, October 4 at Sugar Creek Clubhouse #3 in Greer.

Whether you run, walk, volunteer, cheer from the sidelines, or bring the whole family for the Kids Fun Run, the event is an opportunity to come together for healthier kids, stronger families, and a healthier community.

But the Red Ribbon 5K is about much more than race day. Phil explains how participation supports Just Say Something's prevention programs, education, resources, and work with families throughout the community. Prevention starts before there is a crisis, with communication, strong relationships, and adults who are willing to have important conversations with young people. Every person who participates in the 5K helps make that work possible.

[00:00:00] Foreign. [00:00:08] This is Philip Clark with Just say Something. [00:00:11] October will be here before you know it and today I want to take a few minutes to invite you, your family, your friends and your co workers to join us for one of my favorite events of the year, the Just say something. Red ribbon 5K. [00:00:28] This year's race is Sunday, October 4th at Sugar Creek clubhouse number three in Greer. [00:00:34] That's the clubhouse at the corner of Devonshire and Batesville Roads. Whether you're an experienced runner, someone who enjoys walking a 5K, or a family looking for something fun to do together, we would love to have you there. [00:00:51] And while it is a fun afternoon, the event is about much more than crossing the finish line. [00:00:58] The Red Ribbon 5K supports the work we do every day at Just say Something to help young people make healthy choices and to give parents the tools they need to have open, honest and ongoing conversations with their children. [00:01:14] We know those conversations matter. [00:01:18] Talking with young people about alcohol, vaping, marijuana, opioids and other risky behaviors can sometimes be difficult. [00:01:27] Parents may not know how to start the conversation, what to say or when to say it. [00:01:33] Young people are also dealing with pressures and influences that can make those conversations more important than ever at Just say Something. We want families to have those conversations before there is a crisis. [00:01:49] Prevention starts early and it starts with communication, strong relationships, and adults who are willing to just say something. [00:02:01] That is what you are supporting when you participate in the Red Ribbon 5K. [00:02:07] This year's race is sponsored by the Carolina center for Behavioral Health and Promotions Unlimited and we are incredibly grateful for their support. [00:02:17] So here's what you need to know. [00:02:19] Registration and shirt pickup will begin at 3 o' clock on Sunday, October 4th at Sugar Creek clubhouse number 3, which is located at 119 Stonecrest Road in Greer. [00:02:36] The adults 5K begins at 4pm and we also have a Kids Fun run beginning at 5. [00:02:45] Awards will be presented immediately after that. [00:02:49] One important note about parking. There's not parking available at Clubhouse Number three and there's no parking allowed on Devringer Road, so we're asking all the participants to park at Airport Baptist church located at 776 South Batesville Road. And it's just a short walk. [00:03:13] Registration is currently just $20 per person, but the price increases after September 1st, so I encourage you to go ahead and register. [00:03:23] And if you register before September 26th, you'll also receive a free race shirt. [00:03:31] After that, shirts and sizes will be available only while supplies last. [00:03:37] Online registration closes Sunday, October I'm sorry. [00:03:43] Online Registration closes Saturday, October 3rd at 11:59pm if running isn't your thing, that's okay too. You can walk, come cheer on everyone, volunteer, become a sponsor, or simply help us spread the word. [00:04:04] Every person who participates helps us continue reaching young people and families throughout our community with prevention programs, education, resources and support. [00:04:18] We often talk about the cost of substance use after a problem develops, but prevention is an investment that pays off long before that happens. [00:04:28] Every dollar invested in prevention can save our community many more dollars in treatment and other services. [00:04:36] More importantly, prevention can help a young person avoid that first vape, that first drink, or that first misuse of a prescription drug. [00:04:47] This is why this race matters. [00:04:51] So grab your running shoes, walking shoes, kids, neighbors, friends and co workers and join us on Sunday, October 4th at Sugar Creek at the Just say Something Red Ribbon 5K. [00:05:07] You can find registration information and all race details through just say something sc.org if your business organization is interested in sponsoring opportunities, reach out to me Philip Clark at 864-467-4099. [00:05:29] We hope you'll join us as we kick off October by coming together for healthier kids, stronger families and a healthier community. [00:05:39] The signup link will be in the Show Notes or just Google Just say something 2026 Red Ribbon 5K. We're pretty easy to find and I hope to see you at the starting.
