[00:00:08] Speaker A: Hola and good afternoon. This is Phil Clark with just say something. And welcome to our weekly podcast. We have a special treat today. We have Mally Mitchell, who is our director of hispanic services. So, Mally, welcome. [00:00:24] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:00:25] Speaker A: And tell our audience a little bit about who Mally is and how long you've been here. And then we'll get into some additional details about programming. [00:00:36] Speaker B: I've been here almost for three years now, and I started as a SAP group leader with my friends Carmen and Carla, the Spartanburg area. And I love it. I just fall in love for the program. Seeing these beautiful faces for the kids and the moms and the parents, everything. I really love it. I really love that. And from there, I just came here and feel blessed for that. And I started working with you guys, bringing all these, all these programs that we have for the latino community. [00:01:18] Speaker C: Okay. [00:01:18] Speaker A: All right. So as we with the programming. So let's go through, if you don't mind, go through each one of our parenting programs that we have available in spanish and tell us the age of the kids, the name of the program, the age of the kids, how many weeks, and then maybe some of the topics for each one. [00:01:40] Speaker B: Okay, so we're going to start with back in control. Back in control is program that we have is for a six weeks session. It's for parents. And I have kids between eight and above. Usually we offer this one for middle schools, you know, for parents that have the kids in middle schools. But if we can do it at the school or we can do it here in our office. Some of the topics that we teach is why rules are important. The four elements are a good rule, consequence, effective follow through, consistency, consistency, arguing, lying and punishment and responsibility and trust. Okay, so do you want that I say this in Espanol as well? Okay. Escuelas and Las Mirosco is back in control. And Espanol Retomando controlas porque porcatine consequencia. So now I want to change to the parenting wisely that I really love this one. I think it's one of my favorite ones is for parents that had kids between zero and seven. And it's five weeks program. And this one you, the parents can learn how to about nutrition and safety and hugs and kids and how we need to show the love for our little ones that sometimes I know, and sometimes they put us in a. In a bad spot because they scream or something like that, but we just. They just need love. And we do that. We do that parenting wisely here. Just say something most of the time we do it online and it's a wonderful program for the parents and that need to know better, the little ones. [00:04:36] Speaker C: Okay. [00:04:38] Speaker B: Other program that we have, let's go. [00:04:40] Speaker A: Ahead and do that one in Spanish. [00:04:41] Speaker B: Oh yeah. So now we have the other program, the strengthening family program. Oh, sorry. That is, I was mixing, that was 1214 weeks. This one, and this one is not just for parents, it's for, is for parents and for kids at the same time. The idea is like the kids that participate in this one have the ages between six and eleven and is, I love this program as well. This one. All the families came together. Do our meet together like meeting? No, I'm meeting, no, a dinner together. And after that, later the parents go to the, to the class. The kids went to the class and they're going to learn the same topic every night. No, every night. Different topic every night. And later they go back and going to have something that we call family time that is really nice for strengthening our families. That's the idea for this program. Now I want to switch to espanol. [00:07:02] Speaker C: Okay. [00:07:06] Speaker B: Familias, espada paris, perotambie, empada para los ninos familiar lego padres, banala ala classion and Algos family time. Anterior mente, ilo lo manija mosene. So the other program that we have is triple P. That triple B is for parents that had kids between zero and twelve years old. And the good thing for triple B is because we can do it all discussion group or we can do 101. That is, it's a beautiful program to do after strength and family programs or parenting wisely back in control or before that one. Because the thing is with that one we can show one, one, we can one behavior, we can have one behavior and really work with that behavior until we figured it out what was going on with the kid. [00:08:51] Speaker C: Gotcha. Okay. [00:09:15] Speaker B: And just say something. [00:09:16] Speaker A: All right. So for Triple P, just to clarify to where our other programs, one is six weeks, one is five weeks, one is 14 weeks. Triple P can be like if there's a group of parents or caregivers that would like to have some more information, we can go out and provide Appp for them as a group or we can provide it individually to one parent or one caregiver at a time. [00:09:44] Speaker B: That's correct. [00:09:45] Speaker C: Okay. Okay. [00:09:47] Speaker A: All right, super. And what else do we have? [00:09:50] Speaker B: And we have after, when the part is finished, all these, one of the classes that we have, we had something that we call SQL parents. That is pretty nice because it's a support class. After all these or these programs like this, we can talk about in real life how these skills work with our kids in our home. And we can span a little more the behavior of the skill and talk about a little more, like in a mindful way. So I love circle parents because it's always useful for the parents. [00:10:47] Speaker C: Right. [00:10:47] Speaker A: And so a lot of times our circle of parent groups are for our parents or caregivers and they run the group themself. And so we identify leaders and have them trained. And that's, it's, it's for parents. By parents. [00:11:02] Speaker B: Yes. [00:11:03] Speaker C: Okay. [00:11:04] Speaker A: All right. Awesome. So there's a multitude of programs that we offer. Is there? How does someone go about finding out when our schedule is? [00:11:15] Speaker B: Oh, they can find out schedule in our website under the parenting programs that we have on the website. And everything is in English and in spaniel. And you can always call us in the name the numbers that appears in our website because Virginia is speaking a little espanol and she always going to try to reach one of us that are bilingual here. [00:11:45] Speaker C: Okay. [00:11:46] Speaker A: All right. So our website is just saysomethingsc.org and then our phone number is area code 806 4467-4099 do we have, are there opportunities for people to volunteer as part of these programs? [00:12:05] Speaker B: Yeah, we always need some help. And especially for the strengthened family programs. We always need help to people that come and serve some food for the families and helping us to putting together and to go boxes. When we finish like this, they can go with that to their houses. And we always need help. We definitely love to have people there to helping us packing these, helping us with all the materials that we need for the family time as well. Because sometimes Maria, Fernanda or Elizabeth are our site coordinators on the different places that we have. They need to do other things and we always need hands to help. [00:13:04] Speaker A: We could never have enough hands. [00:13:06] Speaker B: Yes, that's true. [00:13:09] Speaker A: So if someone wants to sign up, how did they do that. [00:13:14] Speaker B: For volunteer? [00:13:16] Speaker A: Well, for volunteer or for to attend one of the programs? [00:13:19] Speaker B: Oh, for everything is with our website. And you can go there and find the parenting program that we have and sign up. You can see the dates that we have available right now. [00:13:36] Speaker C: Okay. [00:13:37] Speaker A: All right. So again, the additional information in both English and Spanish is on our website. It just saysomething sc.org. Or you can call the office at area code 864-467-4099 and Miss Carolyn will most likely answer the phone and will direct your call as needed. Mally, is there anything less word or last bit of message that you would like to share with our listeners? [00:14:11] Speaker B: No, the only thing that I want to say is like all these programs are really, really good for our community and we feel really blessed to be here to do it for the latino community to, to show support because I think this is important for us. And I talking as a latina immigrant and I feel like all the Latinos can feel the same coming here and let us help them. [00:14:50] Speaker C: Okay. [00:14:50] Speaker A: All right. That sounds great. And also on a closing note, all of our programs in Greenville county are free. [00:14:56] Speaker B: Yes. [00:14:56] Speaker A: So we, part of our goal is to remove any and all barriers. So just say something. Sc.org or area code 864-467-4099 Mally, thank you so much for sharing with our listeners about our hispanic programming. I appreciate it and appreciate you. [00:15:20] Speaker B: Thanks for inviting me. [00:15:21] Speaker A: Okay. And that will wrap up today's podcast. And we'll be back later on next week for another one.
