Show Notes

On this episode of the Just Say Something podcast, host Phillip Clark is joined by team member Nick Wolff to talk about the upcoming Take It Back! Youth Summit, happening July 22–23, 2025 at Carolina High School. This two-day event is designed for middle schoolers, but it’s also a unique opportunity for high school and college students to step up as interns.

Nick shares how interns will play an essential role in making the summit a success while also gaining valuable experience in community outreach, event coordination, and youth engagement. Interns may also get involved in year-round work with Just Say Something, including office support and public education around vaping, tobacco, and substance misuse. For details or to apply, visit takeitbackyouthsummit.com, or contact Nick directly at [email protected].

[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. Hello there and welcome back to another episode of Just say Something podcast. My name is Philip Clark and I want to remind you to subscribe, like share and comment on our podcast. And also you can find our podcast wherever you find your favorite podcast. Hopefully that's where we are. So today, you know, summer's quickly approaching and so today one of our newer team members, Nick Wolf, is with us today. And so, Nick, for just the listening audience. Who, Nick, who's that? Give our listeners just a quick. Who Nick is. [00:00:58] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. First, thank you for having me on the podcast. Appreciate it. [00:01:02] Speaker A: Sure. [00:01:03] Speaker B: Very excited to be here and be a part of the team. I am originally born and raised in New York, moved here a couple years ago with my wife to South Carolina, making a family and a home of our own here. And we just really excited to be here and hopefully be a part of the change and help wherever we can. [00:01:21] Speaker A: Okay, super, super. So this summer we're going to have a. Our Middle School summit. [00:01:30] Speaker B: Yes. [00:01:32] Speaker A: And it's the name of it is. [00:01:35] Speaker B: It is Take It Back. [00:01:37] Speaker A: Okay. All right. Take it back. And so we have a website which is. [00:01:42] Speaker B: The website is Take it back. You summit.com right.com. [00:01:48] Speaker A: All right. And so we're going to have hopefully 100 to 125 middle school kids as part of this. And so we are also as part of this, using middle school, I mean, I'm sorry, high school and college kids to. To play a role in this. Talk a little bit about that. [00:02:13] Speaker B: Yes. So we're really excited for this opportunity. It is for high school kids, so 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade and kids that are in college or of college age. So 19, 20, 21, 22. We're calling out to you guys to see if you would participate in our youth summit as interns and helping out with making sure that everything happens the way it's supposed to and making sure that all the middle school kids that are participating have a great time. It's going to be a really fun event. It's two days. It's July 22nd and July 23rd. We can have you guys register to participate and be an intern at that event. If you go to the takeitbackyouthsummit.com website, there is a tab that you can click that will guide you to the registration link. And, you know, we're just really excited to have everybody participate and hopefully be on board for hopefully a youth summit that happens on an annual basis. [00:03:13] Speaker A: Right, right. So on the website there's two different applications. There's one for the middle school kids to participate. [00:03:21] Speaker B: Correct. [00:03:22] Speaker A: And the other one is for middle, high school, and college kids to complete to serve as interns. [00:03:29] Speaker B: Yes, that is correct. [00:03:30] Speaker A: And so as we look at what those interns might be doing, is it specifically for the summit, or will we be using interns in other ways? [00:03:40] Speaker B: Yeah, so we're going to be using interns in a couple of different ways. The biggest way over the summer is going to be at the youth Summit, but there are also other additional needs that our organization has that would need some of these interns to come in and help out in the office, go out into the community, speak to them about the importance of understanding vaping and tobacco use and substance abuse. A lot of the stuff that we do here on an internal basis day to day, and just, you know, helping to program out what the next steps of Just say something is. You know, the biggest goal for us when we're hiring these interns is not only to give them experience as far as what it looks like to live in a day in the life of an adult, but also just to have an experience that they can take away and bring in their. Their future careers and whatever that might look like to them. [00:04:32] Speaker A: Right, right. Okay. And so as we bring this to a close, quick, it say go ahead and give them the website one more time, and then give them your name and then your email. If they have any questions, they can reach out to you. [00:04:52] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. So one more time. Again, the website is just take it back you summit, and you can reach me at Nick at just say something sc.org if you have any questions, concerns, send me an email. I'd be happy to answer anything. Get on a phone call or meet in person, whatever, Whatever you want to do. I'm available and looking forward to hearing from anybody that's interested in participating in any capacity. [00:05:20] Speaker A: All right. All right, sounds good. Well, Nick, I'm happy to have you on the team. You've. You've been with us for what, three months now? Yes, sir. And so we're just getting started. Absolutely. Hold on. Here we go. All right, thank you again for listening. Again, Just say Something's weekly podcast you can find wherever you find your favorite podcast, be sure to, like, comment, share, and subscribe, and we will see you next week. Thanks again.
